Infotrieve, Inc. has just announced the release of its new iPad application, Mobile Library. With this app, users can access scientific, medical, and technical (STM) content on the go. Through the app, all of the content currently available through Infotrieve’s Content SCM (part of its software solutions suite, which provides access to Infotrieve’s catalog of published STM content) is accessible right from users’ mobile devices.
According to Infotrieve, the Mobile Library was designed to increase the return on investment of content licenses and corporate repositories by encouraging secure, intuitive access to corporate information resources anytime, anywhere.
This “anytime, anywhere” mentality seems to be an increasing expectation of users of all kinds–Infrotrieve’s primary audience includes researchers, developers, and scientists. Lynn Schlesinger, VP of marketing & communications at Infotrieve says that the app, “allows researchers to do their research and work outside of the office, such reviewing journals and other materials from wherever they would like.” However, it was not simply the growing mobility of the content users in general that lead Infotrieve in direction; Schlesinger says that several Infotrieve customers came to them with a desire to have STM content accessible to them no matter their location. As Schlesinger puts it, “Work is happening not just in a lab or office situation, it is happening on the go.”
The Mobile Library is fully integrated with Infotrieve’s Content SCM content and rights management platform. Thus, if a scientist is reading something in the lab, they can then pick it up right where they left off on the Mobile Library iPad app
According Schlesinger, when the company first experienced the iPad, the team felt that with the device’s help, its STM “platform would be revolutionary.” However, while the company has debuted its mobile offering on the iPad, Schlesinger says they are likely to expand it to other devices because, as Schlesinger says “Work’s no longer a place; it is an activity or state of mind.”
